#FuelChange with clean transportation

March 11, 2021 | 3min read

We recently hosted Dream Corps on the Solar Disruption Theory podcast, and we found that we have a lot in common! Dream Corps is an organization committed to social justice. One of their main goals is to fight climate change and improve health by promoting green transportation. Through their Green for All program, Dream Corps is hoping to #FuelChange and bring zero-emission cars, trucks, and busses to underserved communities. Zero-emission transportation makes a big difference to our local communities and planet.

Transportation is a main contributor to GHG emissions

According to the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions, transportation is the largest source of carbon emissions in the United States. Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions add up, especially when they are being released from millions of cars on the road. Carbon emissions happen because vehicles are traditionally powered by petroleum. One gallon of gasoline creates 20lbs of CO2; this adds up to an average of 6-9 tons of CO2 each year from a single vehicle.

How green transportation can help

Electric vehicles (EVs) are a low-carbon alternative to traditional cars. EVs help reduce GHG emissions and pollution in communities while also helping with both air and noise pollution. There have been discussions regarding the production of EV batteries. Reusing and recycling batteries is now a growing market as manufacturers become more environmentally conscious. According to the Green For All program, the communities most affected by transportation pollution are usually low-income communities with racial minorities. The program is fighting to reduce pollution by replacing the largest offenders with green alternatives.

What the Green for All program is doing

Green for All is working on advocating for disadvantaged communities, the most affected by transportation emissions. Low-income communities are often near busy highways, bus routes, and distribution centers, making them more exposed to tailpipe pollution. With their My Climate Cost and#TransitisEssential campaigns, they gather stories from those affected the most which makes the cause more personal. They also created a music video to help spread awareness through art and music. The #FuelChange campaign focuses on smart reopening recommendations for public transit and bringing zero-emission EVs, trucks, and busses to low-income neighborhoods. Through policy work, they hope to make a difference in low-income communities and aid in the fight against climate change.

What you can do

By now, you are probably wondering how you can help. Climate change is a big issue, but we all have the power to fight it with small changes. By installing a solar system and solar, you can make the most significant difference in reducing carbon emissions. There are many benefits to owning an EV and solar system. Savings on gas and electricity is just one of them. By investing in an EV, you are directly reducing your carbon footprint. If you are not ready to purchase an EV, consider taking public transit for your commute. According to the American Public Transportation Association, communities with public transit can reduce carbon emissions by 37 million metric tons each year. Of course, if your commute is a little shorter, eliminate emissions altogether by biking or walking to work. Even biking to work one day out of the week can make a big difference.

Freedom Forever is here to help

We learned that we share many of the same values and goals as our friends at Dream Corps. We are here to support the fight against climate change and carbon emissions. If you are ready to reduce your carbon footprint by going solar, we can help. Not to mention our 25-year production guarantee has got you covered.
