Why Freedom Forever is opening in Illinois

Freedom’s CEO, Brett Bouchy sees tremendous potential in Illinois. “We know that Illinois has the potential to become one of the nation’s leaders in renewable energy and we are thrilled to begin working with homeowners to install reliable affordable solar systems”. One of the main reasons Illinois has so much potential is that it now offers homeowners generous incentives for going solar. Illinois offers property tax exemptions for homeowners who invest in solar energy, a robust net metering policy, and solar renewable energy credits (SRECs).

Solar power incentives offered in Illinois

Illinois homeowners who buy their solar systems are eligible for the Federal Tax credit for solar power, which is a tax rebate of up to 30% of the price of the system. You must owe Federal tax when you file your taxes to benefit from the rebate.

Property tax exemption: Illinois exempts the value that solar systems add to homes from state property tax. So homeowners who go solar will see no change in their property tax bills.

Energy credits: Homeowners will also be eligible for Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs). These credits award solar system owners with one renewable energy credit that the homeowner can sell to companies that produce carbon emissions on Illinois renewable energy marketplace.

ComEd commercial solar rebates: Industrial and commercial customers of ComEd are eligible for rebates that decrease the cost of going solar. Business customers can collect a $250 credit for every kilowatt of solar power they install. Solar systems can’t be larger than 2,000 watts in capacity to qualify for these rebates.

Illinois net metering

Net metering is a policy that requires utilities to buy any excess electricity that a homeowner produces. The amount that the homeowner gets paid for power that they produce varies by the utility company that serves the homeowner. Commonwealth Edison offers the best rates for solar net metering customers.
