Arizona even has certain special parking spaces that are designated for carpoolers or are those driving an alternative fuel vehicle such as an EV. Both the Salt River Project and Tucson Energy offer rebates and charging rate incentives for qualifying owners of electric vehicles. Furthermore, charging rate incentives can provide lower time-of-use rates for electric vehicle charging.
Salt River Project (SRP) charging rate incentive
Solar system owners who are served by the Salt River Project (SRP) and own or lease an EV can benefit from the SRP’s electric vehicle export price plan. This plan has no monthly demand charge, and qualifying participants only pay for the electricity they use from SRP. Any excess energy generated is credited at a rate of 2.81 cents per kilowatt-hour. According to the SRP, those who qualify for this plan can save the most by shifting their system to generate as much electricity during the day as possible.
The plan provides a super off-peak rate between 11 PM and 5 AM. In winter months, the estimated price is 5.75 cents per kilowatt-hour, and an estimated 6.11 cents per kilowatt-hour during the summer months. For example, owning a Chevrolet Volt, a plug-in hybrid, would take 10 kilowatt-hours of electricity to fully charge the battery. In the winter, a complete charge would only cost 57.5 cents, and during the summertime, an estimated 61.1 cents. For these estimated costs, you are projected to get 60 miles of battery range!
Tucson Electric charging rate incentive
If you are served by Tucson Electric and you own an EV, you may be eligible for a 5% reduction in Base Power and Purchased Power and Fuel Adjustment Clause charges during off-peak time periods. To qualify for this discount, the customer must participate in Tucson Electric’s Time-of-Use or Demand Time-of-Use pricing plans. Additionally, you may qualify for Tucson Electric’s rebate of up to $500 for the installation of a home charging station for your EV.
