Going Solar:
What to Expect

Solar panels on roof

How Does Solar Work?

Solar panels are made up of photovoltaic (PV) cells that convert sunlight into direct current (DC) electricity. That electricity travels to an inverter, which converts it into alternating current (AC) electricity — the kind your home actually uses.

When your panels produce more electricity than your home needs, the extra energy is sent back to the grid. Your utility tracks that and provides credits or compensation, which can help reduce what you pay when you use electricity at night or on cloudy days.

Home battery energy storage

Energy Storage

Solar panels produce clean energy, but without a battery you are still reliant on the grid when the sun is not shining. A home battery storage system changes that.

With a battery, you store the energy your panels produce during the day and use it whenever you need it — overnight, during a storm, or during an outage. That is what real energy independence looks like. Your sales representative will walk you through battery options and help you decide if adding storage makes sense for your home.

The Installation Process: Step by Step

1

Consultation and custom proposal

Your journey starts with one of Freedom Forever’s Independent Authorized Dealers. They will review your energy usage, assess your home, and design a fully customized solar system built around your specific needs — including battery storage options.

2

Site survey

Your authorized dealer conducts a detailed site survey to ensure your system design is accurate and your home is ready before anything moves to the next stage.

3

Permitting

We handle all the paperwork. Our operations team works through LIGHTSPEED, our proprietary CRM, to coordinate permit applications with your local municipality. We stay on top of it so you do not have to.

4

Installation day

One of our professionally certified install crews will install your system, typically in one to two days. You will receive ongoing updates throughout your journey so you always know exactly where things stand.

5

Inspection

Your local municipality and/or utility company conducts a standard inspection to confirm everything is safe and up to code. We coordinate this on your behalf.

6

Permission to Operate (PTO)

Once your inspection is approved, your utility company issues Permission to Operate. Your system is activated and your solar journey officially begins.

Common questions before you sign

Will my roof work for solar?

Most roofs do. Your authorized dealer will take a close look during the proposal and site survey. If anything needs to be addressed beforehand, you will hear about it upfront.

What if I have an HOA?

Our team of solar experts works to help with all things HOA related, from coordination to approvals and everything in between.

How long does the whole process take?

It typically depends on your local permitting office and utility company. We move as fast as we possibly can on everything within our control and keep you in the loop the whole time.

How much could I potentially save?

It really depends on your home, your energy usage, and your utility rates. Your rep will build a proposal tailored to your specific situation so you get a real, honest picture of your potential savings.

Do I need to be home during installation?

We recommend it, but it is not always required. Your installation team will work out the details with you ahead of time.

What happens on cloudy days?

Your system will still produce some energy, just less than on a clear sunny day. This is completely normal and already factored into your production estimate.

Will solar increase my home’s value?

Studies consistently show that solar homes sell faster and at higher prices. It is an upgrade that keeps working for you even when you are ready to move on.
