Freedom Forever provides you with a 10-year penetration warranty if your roof is in good condition. If your roof has some issues, but if it’s still structurally sound we can still install solar on your roof. In fact, the only time we can’t install solar on a roof is if that roof is structurally unsound. We inspect your roof before you go solar. If there are problems, we’ll notify you. If you want to fix them, we can often get the roof work you want financed along with your solar.
Common signs of roof damage
There are things you can look for to see if your roof might need work. Common signs of roof damage include:
1. Broken or loose roof tiles
Any broken or loose roof tiles will need to be fixed. They can also be a sign that there’s damage underneath the tiles.
2. Cracks and punctures
Cracks and punctures can happen when debris falls on your roof. If something damages your roof, it can allow water to seep in and damage your home. Cracks and punctures can also result from people walking on your roof.
3. Standing water
Your roof is designed to shed water. If you see any standing water on your roof after a rainstorm, that’s evidence of potential underlying problems.
4. Structural damage
If something such as an earthquake causes the support structure for your roof to shift, that damage must be addressed right away! Structurally compromised roofs may result in a collapse.
5. Water stains on the ceiling
Probably the most common sign of roof problems is water stains on ceilings and walls. These stains are caused by leaks that, if left unrepaired, could result in mold problems. You should definitely have water stains checked out by a roofing company as soon as possible.
The age of your roof may not matter
Just because your roof is old doesn’t necessarily mean work is needed before you can go solar. Freedom Forever is able to put solar systems on any roof that is structurally sound. The materials your roof is constructed of plays the main role in whether or not your roof’s age will be a factor or not. Many roofs in California use clay tiles, which can have a 50-year lifespan.
You should try to find out how old your roof is, and how long it is warrantied to last. If your roof is nearing the end of it’s predicted lifespan, you may want to replace it whether you go solar or not. As a general rule of thumb, if your home is less than 30 years old, it probably still has its original roof.
